Stop Crying to God and Start Moving

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on (Exodus 14:15)

We are all familiar with the movie the Ten Commandments. The movie depicts an abridged version of the movement of the Israelites out of Egypt and into the promised land. Pharaoh freed the Israelites after a series of plagues; however, he changed his mind and Pharaoh ordered over 600 of this soldiers and chariots to pursue the Isrealites. When the people of Israel saw the soldiers and their chariots approaching, they cried out to Moses. They accused Moses for bringing them into the desert to die. They had preferred to have remained in slavery rather than dying by the hands of Pharaoh in the desert. When the Lord heard these cries, He responded:

15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.” (Exodus 14:15-18).

How many times do we just keep on crying out to God and He is clearly telling us to move? We remain in situations that are sometimes life threatening and yet we do nothing. There are so many excuses made by us to justify why we should stay or remain the same.

For example, I believe in God's healing, but I also believe that God has given men wisdom to administrate healing through various mediums. Healing can take place either supernaturally or medically. There are people who prefer to stay sick at home and self diagnose themselves and mutter "God is good". God is indeed good, and he is even better for granting us the wisdom to achieve the healing that we seek. If you require spiritual healing go and seek that spiritual healing — "move on" to a Christian based church that can provide that healing. If you are physically ill, go and seek out that physical healing — "move on" to a medical or alternative doctor that can administer that type of healing. Do not just cry......because God would ask you the question, "Why are you crying out to me?"

There are many people who remain in jobs that are unsatisfying and unfulfilling. They cry out to God for better wages, a promotion or a more comfortable work environment — but yet they do nothing. What do you expect—God himself to provide you with better wages while you continue to do the SAME work in the SAME place. There isn't any attempt to "move on" and educate oneself in order to achieve a higher wage; nor is there any attempt to make the right investments. Many of us have acted like the 3rd servant in the parable of the Talents. We have taken the money given by the master and at the end there is nothing shown for it. When you choose to remain in the same position, and you have all the opportunities and possibilities but yet you do nothing, God would ask you the question, "Why are you crying out to me?"

There are many people who remain in toxic and unhappy relationships and they would find every excuse in the book to stay: "we have children", "I cannot afford it", "I have no where to go". However, there are some genuine and concerning issues that should be considered before making the next move. I am not suggesting that you leave one situation to enter another uncomfortable situation but there are many who pray and receive the answers they are looking for but yet they remain. They are hoping that the other person would change, but "what if" that person doesn't change. Maybe it is not God's will for him/her to change —would you still remain? Always remember if you want a change, the change begins with you. But yet if you choose to do nothing. God would ask you the question, "Why are you crying out to me?"

In the end of the day, I ask you the question: Where is your FAITH? Where is your faith to MOVE ON? When we pray and we cry, God would see our anguish and hear the words of our lips, but after that we cannot simply DO NOTHING. We are to pray unceasingly, but faith without works is dead (James 2:20). So when the Lord told Moses to keep pressing on towards the Red Sea and the Israelites saw only miles of ocean before them and nowhere to go, God did the impossible and divided the sea so that the Israelites could walk through dry land to freedom. God would provide you with your dry land in the midst of trouble, only if you are prepared to MOVE ON.
