Move In Silence

Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. Mark 7:36

In the Gospel reading of Mark 7:24-37, there are many clear miracles: the casting out of demons and the healing of the sick. But what stood out to me was the humility of Jesus Christ and Jesus knowing when certain things should remain quiet.

When Jesus went to the area of Tyre, he entered a house quietly without letting anyone know that he was there. However, a mother found Jesus and asked him to cast out a demon from her daughter. Jesus performed the miracle of casting the demon out of the little girl. When the mother returned to her child, she was sleeping, and the demon was gone. Jesus returned from the region of Tyre, and a deaf, dumb and blind man was brought to him for healing. Jesus took the man in private, away from the crowd and the man was healed. The man was able to see, hear and speak freely. After these miracles, Jesus particularly told them to tell no one. But because of their zealousness they did not listen.

When we are doing certain things, let us move quietly like Jesus intended. Let us remain humble in the things that we do and accomplish in this life. Jesus never wanted to be placed on a pedestal. The miracles he performed were done in private because he wanted it so. And we can learn a lot from this.

Many times, we talk too much. Many times, we go about beating our own chest. Many times, our pride in our accomplishments prevents us from appreciating the kindness others would show. There are times when it is good to remain silent in the things that we do. And even if other people publicly recognize our efforts or accomplishments, never get swell headed. Master the art of humility. The meek would inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5) and humility gives way to wisdom (Proverbs 11:2).

For example, social media has given many persons a platform to speak their mind. We see the innermost thoughts and actions of people plastered on our social media feeds. Often, people have borne it all on the various social media forums, never to be erased from the minds of people and the world of the internet. In the end of the day, it eventually leads to embarrassment, endangerment, and character assassination. Persons would post their level of wealth God has blessed them with and as a consequence they are now living in fear and under security guard. They told the whole world about their lives and plans and evil minds now conspire to take it away from them. All of this because of a liberal tongue.

Do not tell all of your future plans. Not everyone is in your corner rooting for you. Have you ever noticed as soon as you tell someone of your future plans, those same plans fall through or fail. This is because God had put a plan in your spirit, and it was not ready to be made know to the world. Create in silence, move in silence, and bless others in silence.

Be still and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10) and he would continue to bless you miraculously.
