Be Not Afraid

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). So many of us are just afraid. We are afraid of the dark; we are afraid to be alone; we are afraid of not being loved; and the list can go on.

When would we stop being afraid? Would we stop being afraid when we are old and gray and could hardly move? What is preventing us from applying for another job when we know that our current job is a dead end one; what is preventing us from releasing ourselves from an unhealthy relationship or marriage when we know it only causes unhappiness; what is preventing us from exploring new and uncharted possibilities that can significantly change our lives.

In fact we are really afraid of the unknown. But in reality if the unknown was not discovered we would not have reaped the benefits we enjoy today. If Rosa Parks was afraid of the unknown, she would not have been among the many who have broken discrimination barriers in the United States; if Mahatma Ghandi was afraid of the unknown, his symbolism of peaceful protest and sacrifice would not have contributed to the human rights movement; if Jesus was afraid of the unknown, he would not have taken up the cross and die for our sins.

We should never be afraid to experience a transformation that can positively affect our lives. Why choose to remain in a job you hate rather than explore other possibilities. Just because "that job" is all you know doesn't mean you should subject yourself to self-inflicted unhappiness. Step out, be bold and make that change. Only you can make a difference in your life. Though you may live in this world with others, do not let others dictate how you LIVE.

Everyday we face uncertainty—but once there is God, we have hope. We can use this hope to light our path and find our way when we feel afraid. Let us not be afraid.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God (Isaiah 41:10). Let's bravely put on the amour of God and step onto the battle arena with a brave spirit.
